Collection: Story Disc Collection
The inspiration behind making the 'seal' collection, sprouted in 2015 but was only completed in 2019. "Things take time to grow and mature" as they say, and this took much longer than I had planned. Despite the long wait, I am so pleased with the results, and the feedback on the pieces we have sold so far, has been very positive and rich in stories.. - Ashleigh George-Carter
Idea: I wanted to make pieces that used physical representations of the scripture verse. The images I have used on the front are a sweet reflection of the scriptures on the back and because of the interesting illustrations on the front, they are wonderful pieces that pique peoples' interest and allow the wearer to share with those who may ask what they mean.
Process: Carving in relief was a steep learning curve, but something that I thoroughly enjoyed. I would put on my high magnification goggles and disappear into the detailed world of carving. It is painstakingly slow and precise and the material I was using, did not allow for mistakes to be easily fixed - so I had to be extra careful where I was placing the lines and grooves that would eventually become the final image.
The first two seals were the Lion and the Tree, and it just so happened that when I finally finished them, it was summer break, so I left them in my workshop to be worked on again once the kids went back to school. School started and I was excited to get back into the studio and do the final touches, and get the pieces molded. I happily went into the workshop only to find that the images I had carved, were completely destroyed! Nobody had been in there for 3 months and the other carved discs I had done for some private work were all intact, just the two ( the Lion and the Tree) were unusable and the images barely visible. The surfaces were totally scratched with lines as fine as a scalpel, I was confused as to what had happened and my heart sank…Thank goodness I had done an experimental mold the day I closed the workshop, and I prayed very hard that they would be good enough (as the thought of starting from scratch was disheartening). Well I am relieved to say they worked and I truly believe the Lord had his hand in rescuing and making those two “samples” survive, who had a hand in destroying them, can be left up to you…
After completing the seven large seals, my goal was to do the seven small ones, and those were first available for sale in January 2020. I am so pleased with how they have turned out, each one has its own special charm and character, its tough to choose which one I like most, I love them all, and I hope they bless you as much as they have me in creating them.
